1 Peter — PBE 2027 Study Guide
Living hope in the middle of suffering.
Peter's letter to scattered Christians enduring persecution, reminding them of their living hope, holy calling, and Christ's example in suffering.
Overview
The First Epistle of Peter was written by the Apostle Peter from Rome (which he calls "Babylon") to Christians scattered across five Roman provinces in what is now Turkey. These believers — both Jews and Gentiles — were facing increasing hostility and social persecution because of their faith. Peter encourages them with the reality of their living hope through Christ's resurrection, their identity as God's chosen people, and the assurance that suffering, when borne faithfully, is precious in God's sight. Christ's example of patient suffering is woven throughout the letter, and practical instructions about household conduct, submission to authorities, and Christian community fill its pages.
