Mark — PBE 2027 Study Guide
The Gospel of action — Jesus on the move.
The shortest and most fast-paced of the four Gospels, written by John Mark. Emphasizes Jesus' miracles, His suffering, and the call to costly discipleship.
Overview
The Gospel of Mark is the second book of the New Testament and traditionally the earliest written Gospel. Mark, also called John Mark, was a companion of Peter and Paul. His Gospel is short, urgent, and full of action — the word "immediately" appears more than 40 times. Mark presents Jesus as the suffering Servant-King: powerful in word and deed, yet headed toward the cross. Major themes include the kingdom of God, the meaning of true discipleship, and Jesus' identity as the Messiah and Son of God. The Gospel reaches its climax at the cross (chapter 15) and the empty tomb (chapter 16).
